Which baby book style
is right for you?

Choosing the correct style of baby book is essential if you want to make sure it will not end up empty in the back of your closet.

With my first child I went a little, ok a lot, overboard. She has four baby memory books - a traditional bound book, a three ring binder book, a first year baby memory calendar and a small memory book I got from the hospital. As you can tell, I had a lot of time on my hands.

With my other children I chose a baby scrapbook. I knew I loved to scrapbook and wanted to create unique books for them. They all love looking at their baby books. It is truly a great gift to give to your child.

If you are trying to decide which type of baby memory book is right for you, here are some questions to ask yourself:

How much time do you have to make a baby book?

How much creativity do you want to use?

How much money do you want to spend?

If your new to creating scrapbooks, do you want to learn a new hobby?

There are three different styles of baby books to choose from...

Traditional Bound Baby Book - This is the type of baby album you would have had as a child. It is bound like a book. If you have no desire or time to create pages from scratch then this is the book for you.

Less time consuming to fill out. You just need to fill in the pages.

You can keep it at your bedside with an acid free pen and write in it before you go to bed.

You will not need to buy scrapbook supplies.

May contain pages that are not relevant to you.

You are unable to add pages to it.

Doesn't take much creativity. I guess this could be a pro or con.

Three Ring Binder Baby Book (loose leaf album) - This is a great choice if you are not sure if scrapbooking is right for you. They come with all the essential pages of a traditional baby book. Plus, it offers you the ability to add pages you have created.

If you are too busy to make scrapbook pages then just fill out the ready made pages.

You can remove pages you don't need. If you want to keep one side of a page and not the other, then make your own page and paste it on top.

Allows for some creativity.

If you do not add your own pages the book may seem empty.

Baby Scrapbook Album - This is a totally custom made book. You create all the pages in it.

The amount of creativity you may use is unlimited.

More personal because everything is made by you.

It can become a hobby.

You can get together with others to scrapbook.

It may be difficult to create some pages that are standard in traditional baby memory books, such as, when each tooth came in.

Time consuming.

Cost -whether you decide traditional or digital. You will need supplies. Check out what you need to get scrapping.

Do not choose this style if you don't want to scrapbook as a hobby.

In summary...

If your are just interested in recording the facts and including a photo here and there, you don't have a lot of time and have no interest in starting a new hobby... Then go with a traditional bound baby memory book.

If you think scrapbooking looks cool, but you are not sure if you have the time to commit or the desire to start a new hobby. Go with a three ring binder (loose leaf) baby book. This will allow you to get your feet wet. To try out creating scrapbook pages. If you decide it's not for you, then just fill out the ready made pages. If you realize you love to scrapbook, you can make some amazing pages to add to the book. Then, you can switch to a scrapbook for the toddler years.
